What to ask a property manager

Clear expectations make a better working relationship.

THE REAL EDITORIAL · 10 OCTOBER 2026

Define the scope

List the tasks included in the management agreement. Letting, rent administration, inspections, maintenance and tenant support may be separate services.

Understand the fee basis

Ask how fees are calculated, what additional work costs and how vendor invoices are handled. Identify who authorizes expenditure.

Agree a reporting routine

Clarify how you receive statements, inspection notes and maintenance updates. Agree the escalation route for urgent issues.

Plan the handover

Keep property records, keys, tenant information and existing obligations organized. Review termination and handover terms before entering the agreement.

General information, not advice on a specific transaction. Seek qualified local guidance for legal, financial and ownership decisions.
